Caves on Don't Starve Together Servers with AleForge Hosting Print

  • 0

The Caves in Don't Starve Together are large underground sections of the world filled with unique features. They are so large that they are generated as whole new maps upon entering. Caves have their own artwork, terrain, and maps. They are home to various creatures, plants, and other objects that do not appear elsewhere.

With the default server configuration, to play in the Caves, you must have a second server setup and run alongside the primary main server that handles the regular map. This second server running the caves has to be configured to connect to your primary server. When you move from the main map to the caves, players are actually disconnected from the primary server and are logged into the Caves server. The same thing happens when a player leaves the caves to return to the main map.

Both On One Server Free

At AleForge we choose to implement the primary world and the Cave world on the same server with no additional cost to our customers.

We achieve this by using the feature built into Don't Starve Together called shards which allows the creation of multiple mini servers running inside your main server. Our system automagically creates a shard and sets it up to run the Caves content when your order your server from us. We handle all the grueling details for connecting your two servers together when your server is set up.

For our customers, this means less stress, less time until you can play, and less money out of your pocket. This is great for small groups of family, and friends that want to play with the caves content

When you are playing all you need to do is find a cave portal on the primary map and you will be teleported away to the caves server to begin your exploration and exploitation of the darkness

Server Resources

Due to both servers running simultaneously under the same service they both use the same pool of CPU and Ram. When ordering your server you will need to consider how many resources and how many players you want on your server. You have to have enough to handle the computations and data from both servers. As a rule of thumb, we recommend 512Mb per player. If you ad mods this amount of resources will increase.

For large servers, we recommend running the caves and main map on separate servers. Please contact our support for assistance in getting this configuration set up.
