How Do I Install Mods On My Starbound Server? Print

There are two ways to get workshop mods for your server.

Non-workshop mods are installed the exact same way on the server as on your computer; simply use the File Manager on the left side of your panel to access the server's mods folder and upload the mod files.

Workshop Mods

To locate where Steam stores the mods it downloaded follow these steps:

  1. Right-click on Starbound in your game library, and the menu will pop up. Click on properties at the bottom
  2. On the next pop-up window, click on the Local Files tab across the top, and then on Browse Local Files
  3. A File Explorer window will open. To get to where Steam hid the mods click the Up Arrow in the upper left to move up twice until you are in the steamapps folder. EG: D:/SteamLibrary/steamapps
  4. Open the workshop folder and then the folder named content
  5. Open the folder names 211820 (Starbound Steam ID)
  6. You will see a bunch of folders with numbers. These are all the mods you have downloaded. Leave these mods in the numbered folders
  7. Select all the folders (ctrl+a) and then right-click one of the folders. Once the menu opens go to Send to and select the Compressed (zipped) folder

Now you have a zip file ready to be uploaded.

Uploading the Mods to the Server

Use an FTP client to upload the service you created previously to the mods folder. Once uploaded click the three dots next to the archive in the file manager in the panel and select unarchive to expand the zip.

Use the AleForge Panel to Rename Files

The last step before the server can actually use the mods is the file inside every numbered folder needs to be moved out of that folder and directly into the /mods folder. The server will not load any files inside other folders inside /mods. The problem with that is, they're all named the same exact name: content.pak.

We have solved the problem by setting up a script that executes on server reboot that will rename and move all the mod files for you.

  1. Stop the server
  2. Create a new backup using the Backup tab.
  3. Open the Settings tab and start a new reinstall. Don't worry our reinstall is a soft reinstall that will only touch files that were initially downloaded for the game. Your worlds and configs will not be touched.
  4. Open the mods folder and verify the folders are gone and there are a bunch of numbered .pak files
  5. Start the server
